Sometimes all a game needs is more of the same

Sometimes gamers complain about the sequel of a well-received game, claiming that it’s just more of the same. That said, sometimes all a sequel needs is more of the same to surpass its predecessor. This is the case for Fallout 2. Even though I briefly talked about it in my Fallout 1 review, I decided that the sequel deserves a dedicated post, especially because it’s one of my all-time favorite games.

However, I’ll focus on the differences between the two games in this review to avoid repeating myself. Hence, in case you’re unfamiliar with the original Fallout games, please read my review of the first game before continuing with this post.

Development

Fallout 2 was released in 1998 with a total development time of only nine months. Interestingly, development of Fallout 2 started before the original game was even released. While the original Fallout was initially seen as a less important product at Interplay, it generated a lot of internal hype in the last months of its development cycle. …
